Hotel Furniture EUDR: The 30 December 2026 Deadline

The EU Deforestation Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, brings furniture explicitly within its scope of derived products. For large and medium operators the obligations enter into application on 30 December 2026, which puts wood-heavy hotel furniture programmes directly in the frame.

What the regulation requires

Any operator or trader placing the covered commodities, or products derived from them, on the EU market or exporting from it must be able to show that the products do not originate from recently deforested land and have not contributed to forest degradation. Wood is one of the covered commodities, and furniture is named among the derived products. The regulation repeals the EU Timber Regulation, so the previous EUTR framework is being replaced rather than layered on. The Commission amended the regulation in December 2024 and December 2025 with simplification measures intended to reduce administrative burden.

Who has to comply, and when

• Large and medium operators: 30 December 2026

• Micro and small operators already covered by the EUTR: 30 December 2026

• Other micro and small operators: 30 June 2027

Note that products added to scope by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102 fall under the regulation from 30 December 2027. Those additions concern soluble coffee, certain palm oil derivatives and frozen cattle tongues, not furniture.

What hotel FF&E buyers should prepare

Casegoods, wardrobes, vanities, headboards and dining furniture are wood-intensive, so they carry the bulk of a project's exposure. Four practical steps: collect species and country-of-origin data at quotation stage rather than after purchase order; ask suppliers for geolocation and due diligence documentation they can pass on; keep the evidence filed per purchase order so the importer of record can act on it; and build additional lead time into 2027 project schedules, since documentation requests will add days to every quotation cycle.
